In Islam, there are 99 names of God. The list varies since various scholars differ on the defining name of God. Some names are only in the Quran while others are in the Hadith (and some appear in both).
The following set is based on a 9th Century list. Note: The name of God is distinct and reserved for God alone, thus, it is usually considered inappropriate to use them as a person’s name. Theophoric names are therefore formed by prefixing with the term abd (slave/servant) for male names and amat for female names. The abd is usable in combined forms. Examples are: Abdur Rahman, Abdul Jabbar, Salam Fayyad, Ra’ouf Mus’ad, etc.
