Shalakarma Yagya: Foundation Laying Ceremony

The following verse is recited to the architect:

मा नः पाशं प्रति मुो गुरुर्भारो लघुर्भव
वधूमिव त्वा शाले यत्रकामं भरामसि ॥

Maa nah paasham mucho gururbhaaro laghurbhava.
Vadhoomiva tvaa shaalo yatrakaamam bharaamasi.1

May God bless you to build according to our wishes and plans. May you be blessed to build a strong home that is well-balanced and well-structured. May the weight and size be perfect, neither imbalance, too heady or too light. May you be blessed to provide us with our home, which will be our loving place of abode.

मा not नः us पाशम् bind, fetter/affix, a measure of land प्रतिमु released, loosened, toward गुरुर्भारो unstable heaviness, unnecessary burden, imbalance gravity, heaviness,  लघुर्भव  be light weighted, be balanced weightedness वधू like a bride, one’s very own, vessel इव like, as if त्वा you, to you शाले home यत्रकामम् according to these desires/wishes भरामसि strong

प्रतीचीत्वा प्रतीनः शाले प्रैम्यहिंसतीम्। 
अग्निर्ह्यन्तरापश्चरतस्य प्रथमा द्वाः ॥

Prateecheem tvaa prateecheenah
shaalo praimi-ahimsateem.
Agnir-hi-antar-aapashchar-tasya prathamaa dvaah.2

O Lord, may you bless this construction. May every layer and part be built with care, following precise logic and measurements. May this building be constructed without any harm to anyone and may there never be harm to anyone in the home ever. May the front and rear doors to this home be safeguarded from negative and harm always. May there be the positive energy in every piece of material used and every drop of water used in this construction.

प्रतीीम् going or coming towards, front and back  त्वा you प्रती: in every layer or pile, materials of construction शाले home प्रे inspire मि fix, cast, construct अहिंसतीम् free from voilence अग्नि: God, energy हि surely, certainly, so अन्त: within आप: waters and ऋतस् truth, logic प्रथमा first द्वा: doors

Make an oblation with the following mantra:

अच्ुता भौमा स्वाहा

Achutaaya bhaumaaya svaahaa.Paaraskaara Grihyasutra 3.4.3

May the base of this home, cast within the earth, be firm and solidly cast.

अच्ुता steadfast, firm, solid, without leaks or cracks भौमा earth, floor, consisting of earth

पूर्णाहुत्ाः – Poorṇa-ahuti

Final Offering: Chant this mantra three times and make the three final oblations

ओं सर्वं वै पूर्णं स्वाहा

Om sarvam vai poorṇam svaahaa.3
