NOTES:

Brahma stotram: The first four verses are very similar to Verses 58-62 of the Mahanirvana Tantra which is one of the best known Tantric Scriptures reflecting a conversation between Shiva and Shakti.

The Mahanirvana Tantra describes chakra, or subtle energy structure of the human body, ceremonies, yogic practices and mantras for meditation. It also summarizes Hindu Laws (Dharma) and outlines rules for intimacy.

The last verse is a very popular chant, known by every true devotee. It represents the total acceptance and surrenders to God who is every kind of relationship one could want. This verse is found in the Pandava Gita (v28) in supplication from Gandhari to Lord Krishna.

The verse Na tasya kashchit patirasti loke and the verse Tam-eeshvar-aanam paramam mahesh-varam are from the Svetashvatara Upanishad.

The Tvameva maataa verse is similar to a verse in Ramanujacharya’s Sharanagati-gadyam as well as a verse The Srimad Bhagavaam. See “Tvameva maataa” link for more on this.
