Bhaiya mere raakhee ke bandhan kee nibhaanaa
Baiyaa mere, chhoṭee bahan ko na bhulaanaa
Dekho ye naataa nibhaanaa
Ye din, ye tyohaar khushee kaa
Paavan jaise neer nadee kaa
Bhaee ke ujale maathe pe
bahan lagaaye mangal ṭeekaa
Jhume ye saavan suhaanaa
Baandh ke hamane resham ḍoree
Tumse vo ummeed hai joṛee
Naazuk hai jo sààs ke jaisee
par jeevanbhar jaaye naa tooṛee
Jaane ye saaraa zamaanaa
Shaayad vo saavan bhee aaye
Jo pahlaa kaa rang naa laaye
Bahan paraaye des basee ho
Agar vo tum tak pahùchana paaye
Yaad kaa deepak jalaanaa
O my brother, fulfill this rakhee obligation and always remember your younger sister. Always maintain our relationship and connection.
This day of this beautiful festival comes flowing by and on brother’s shining forehead the mangal teeka is applied every time this beautiful festival comes by.
This sacred silk thread is tied in an expectation of togetherness over our fragile lifetime. Let this be known always.
Even through the storms and difficulties of life may come and the colors are gone, even if your sister settles in some strange land that you cannot get to, then light a lamp and let the light remind you of this relationship.
