Chaudhvèè kaa chaand ho, yaa aafataab ho
Jo bhee ho tum khudaa kee kasam, laajavaab ho
Zulfe hai jaise kààdhe pe baadal jhuke hue
Aàkhe hai jaise may ke payaale bhare hue
Masti hai jisame pyaar ki tum, woh sharaab ho
Cheharaa hai jaise jhil me khilataa huaa kaval
Yaa zindagee ke saaj pe chheṛi hui gazal
Jaane bahaar tum kisi shaayar kaa khwaab ho
Hoṭho pe khelati hai tabassum kee bijaliyàà
Sajde tumhaaree raah me kartee hai kaikashàà
Duniyaa-e-husn-o-ishq kaa tum hee shabaab ho
Are you the beautiful full moon or the splendid sun? Whatever you are, by God, you are amazing.
Your hairs appear on your shoulders like clouds; your eyes seem filled with intoxicants. You yourself are like a vitalizing nectar that is filled with the essence of love.
Your face is like an outstanding lotus on a lake; or, like an ode played to the music of life. O life’s blossom, you are a dream of a poet’s praise.
On your lips the lightning flashes of smiles play. On your path, the galaxies bend down to pray. You are the hallmark of beauty, love, and youth.
