Kaahe ko roye, chaahe jo hoye
Saphal hogee teree aaraadhanaa
Kaahe ko roye
Samaa jaaye is mè toofaan
Jiyaa teraa saagar samaan
Nazar teree kaahe naadaan
Chhalak gayee gaagar samaan
Jaane kyò toone yòò
Asuvan se nain bhigoye
Kaahe ko roye
Diyaa ṭooṭe to hai maaṭee
Jale to ye jyoti bane
Bahe aàsoo to hai paanee
Ruke to ye motee bane
Ye motee aàkhò kee
Poojee hai ye na khoye
Kaahe ko roye
Kahee pe hai duhkh kee chhaayaa
Kahee pe hai khushiyò kee dhoop
Buraa bhalaa jaisaa bhee hai
Yahee to hai bagiyaa kaa roop
Phoolò se, kaaṭò se
Maalee ne haar piroye
kaahe ko roye
Do not cry, Come what may. Your devotion will bear fruit
You can weather any storm; your heart is as vast as the ocean, have strength and fortitude. How innocent and naive you are to shed tears. Why moisten your eyes? Why become like a water vessel that spills water and soaks your eyes with tears?
If a diya a lamp, is broken, it is just mud, but if it ignites, it becomes light. Tears being shed are just water, but when contained become pearls. Do not lose the pearls from your eyes.
If sorrow is now casting its shadow, then there will soon be sunshine of joys. Whether good or bad, whatever comes, that is life. A garland is woven from flowers picked from among thorns and the thorns are defeated by the thread that makes the garland. Do not weep.
Singer: S. D. Burman; Movie: Aradhana (1969)
