O duniyaa ke rakhvaale

Bhagwaan, bhagwaan bhagwaan

O duniyaa ke rakhvaale
Sun dard bhare mere naale
Aash niraash ke do rango se
duniyaa toone sajaayee
Naiya sang toofaan banaayaa
milan ke saath judaayee
Jaa dekh liyaa harjaayee
Loot gayee mere pyaar kee nagaree
Ab to neer bahaa le

Aag banee saawan kee barsaa
phool bane angaare
Naagan ban gayee raat suhaanee
patthar ban gaye taare
Sab ṭooṭ chuke hȧi sahaare
Jeevan apna vaapas le le
jeevan dene waale

Chand ko ḍhoonḍhe paagal sooraj
shaam ko ḍhoonḍhe saveraa
Mȧi bhee ḍhoonḍhoon usa preetam ko
ho na sakaa jo meraa
Bhagvaan bhalaa ho teraa
Kismat phooti aas na ṭooṭi
pȧȧv mė paṛ gaye chhaale

Mahal udaas aur galiyaa soonee
chup-chup hȧi deewaare
Dil kya ujaṛaa duniyaa ujaṛee,
ruth gayee hȧi bahaare
Ham jeevan kaise gujaare
Mandir girtaa phir ban jaataa
dil ko kaun sambhaale

O God! O Maintainer of the world, please hear my pain-filled plea.

You created the world of two colors of hope and despair. Amongst us, You also created a storm of meeting along with separation. O Unfaithful One, go look at this! My village of love has been taken from me! Now, you should shed a tear!

Fire has become the rain and flowers have become burnt coal. The female serpent has become the sweet night and the rocks have become stars. All support has been broken. Please take back this life, O giver of life. O maintainer of this world.

The silly sun looks for the moon. The evening looks for the morning. I, too, am looking for my love who could never be mine. God, nonetheless

Baiju Bawra (1952); Mohammed Rafi
