Arrival of the child to the Vedi
Mother holds child with child’s forehead in North. Mother comes from the southern side and hands child to father; then walks behind father and child to come around to sit at the Father’s side, facing east:
The following three prayers are recited after the Mother brings the child to the Vedi
यत्ते सुसीमे हदयं हितमन्तः प्रजापतौ।
वेदाहं मन्ये तद्ब्रह्म माहं पौत्रमघं निगाम्॥
Yatte suseeme hridayam
hitamantah prajaapatau.
Vedaaham manye tadbrahma
maaham pautramagham nigaam.1
O pretty lady, you are a beautiful blessing of our Almighty God. And, you have been blessed by God to ensure that we are gifted with our child, thus avoiding the pains of being without a child. May you, O beautiful one, be blessed with the constant wisdom of the Vedas. I worship God, our benefactor, for his continued blessings.
यत्त intent upon, watchful, guided सुसीमे attractive and well-adorned lady हदयं heart हितमन्तः well-disposed, wholesome, fixed प्रजापतौ God, protector, lady वेद Veda, wisdom अहम् I, me मन्ये mindful, in mind, thinking, contemplating, meditating तद्ब्रह्म that Lord, Brahma माहं great पौत्रम् of son, child अघम् negative effects, sorrow, unhappiness निगाम् absence of, not to have arrived
यत्पृथिव्या अनामृतं दिवि चन्द्रमसि श्रितम्।
वेदामृतस्याहं नाम माहं पौत्रमघं रिषम्॥
Yatprithivyaa anaamritam divi
chandramasi shritam.
Vedaamritasyaaham naam maaham
Pautramagham riṣham.2
We are mindful of God’s unique blessings and by whose Grace this timeless, eternal earth, moon, nature, and natural laws exist. We bow to the infinite wisdom of the Vedas that inspires us towards the science of nature and God. O Almighty One, may our child be permanently protected from any negative forces or illness. May the wisdom of the Vedas and the blessing of wise ones always be with our child.
यत् that पृथिवी earth अनामृतं not struck by death, death-defying दिवि sky-born चन्द्रमसि moon, lunar month श्रितम् universal order, universal laws, laws of nature वेद veda अमृत immortality, अहम् I, me नाम name माहं great पौत्रम् of son, child अघम् negative effects, sorrow, unhappiness रिषम् suffer, harm, negative effects
इन्द्राग्नी शर्म यच्छतं प्रजायै मे प्रजापती।
यथायं न प्रमीयेत पुत्रो जनित्र्या अधि॥
Indraagni sharma yachchhatam
prajaayai me prajaapatih.
Yathaayam na prameeyate
putro janitrayaa adhi.3
O Almighty God, you are the ever-present protector of us all. Please always protect our child. May no harm come to him, may no negative force come to him. May this child and this mother be always protected.
