Samaavartana Sanskaara

This part of the Sanskaara re-instills the lifelong practice of personal hygiene for the student who has now become a graduate as well as an adult, ready to play a role in the world. The graduate would have had a hair and beard trimmed as relevant and necessary.

The symbolic brushing of teeth is done with the following mantra:

ओम् अन्ाद् व्ूहध्वꣳसोमो राजायमागमत् ।
मे मुखं प्रमार्क्ष्यते यशसा भगे

Before I place food in my mouth, I clean and polish my teeth for their health and protection. May my teeth always be clean and healthy to allow me to lead my life forward, to eat, speak and to attain fame and a good reputation.

Water is essential for life and abundant in everything. It makes the world habitable and allows us to produce grains, which gives us physical power. May we be similarly blessed with abundance in our endeavor to increase our wisdom.
