Soorya Darshan
With the following verse, the child is symbolically introduced to nature and to the Sun
तच्चक्षुर्देवहितं पुरस्ताच्छुक्रमुच्चरत् ।
पश्येम शरदः शतं जीवेम शरदः शतं
श्रृणुयाम शरदः शतं प्रब्रवाम शरदः शतं
अदीनाः स्याम शरदः शतं भूयश्चा शरदः शतात् ॥
Tach-chakshur-devahitam
purastaach-chhukram-uch-charat
Pashyema sharadah shatam
jeevema sharadaḥ shatam
Shriṇuyaama sharadah shatam
Prabravaama sharadah shatam
Adeenaah syaam sharadah shatam
Bhooyash-cha sharadah shataat.1
That sun around which all planets in this solar system revolve and by which all life is sustained on Earth, that sun never dims or diminishes. Like the ever-present and permeating sunlight, our Almighty God is in and aware of everything; He permeates every particle of energy in the world. He protects and blesses those who maintain a noble life. May we be so favored by Him to see and perceive; breathe/function and be healthy; hear and retain positive sounds and words; speak, teach and spread (the Vedas); and, be independent and free from any negative for a hundred years and more.
तत् He/that चक्षुः seer/perceiver of all देवहितम् benefactor of the righteous people पुरस्तात् before creation (time immemorial) शुच्छुक्रम् (शुद्ध) pious उच्चरत् continuously omnipotent पश्येम may we see शरदः years शतम् hundred – The 100 years denotes more than just the number, it represents fullness in life time जीवेम जीवेम breathe/breath श्रृणुयाम hear, perceive, mental processing प्रब्रवाम speak, Communicate, cohabit अदीनाः independent स्याम may we be भूयः more च and शरदः years शतात् hundred (lifetime).

हे बालक!
त्वं जीव शरद: शतं वर्धमान:॥
He baalak!
Tvam jeeva sharadah shatam vardhamaanaa.
Dear Child, our blessings to you. May you develop, grow, and thrive throughout your life. May you live a long and healthy life.
बालक child, son त्वम् you जीव live शरद: year शतं hundred वर्धमान: grow, thrive
Here ends the first (and major) part of the Sanskaara. The ceremony continues/concludes at night:
Chandra Darshana
This Last step takes place at night, symbolically introducing the child to the nature of night and the moon. With the child’s head in the northern direction, the mother brings the child to the right side of the father and hands it to him. She then stands at the father’s left side and takes water in her hands and let it pour to the ground with the following verse.
ओं यददश्चन्द्रमसि कृष्णं पृथिव्या हृदयँ श्रीतम् ।
तदहं विद्वाम् स्तत्पश्यन्माहं पौत्रमघं रुदम् ॥
Om yada-dash-chandramasi kriṣhṇaa
prithivyaa hridayam shritam.
Tadaham vidvaan-stat pashyan
maaham poutra-magham rudram.2
Look around, O child. Observe the moon, which shines in the dark of the night and affects and controls (the flow of waters) on Earth. Just like the moon that rids the earth of darkness of night, so may God’s blessing protect you from sorrow and unhappiness as you develop and grow.
यत् that अदस् there चन्द्रमस् moon कृष्णं dark पृथिव्या on earth हृदयँ center, heart, true knowledge श्रीतम् hundred तत् that अहम् I विद्वाम् wise ones पश्यन्तु look around यत् that अदस् there चन्द्रमस् moon पौत्रम् of son, child अघम् negative effects, sorrow, unhappiness रुदम् grow, rise, obscure
The Mother now sprinkles the water around and then proceeds to go around the father (at the back) to take the child (keeping its head north).
The Father now takes some water in his hands and sprinkles around after the verse.
