Shalakarma Yagya: Foundation Laying Ceremony

The शलाकर्म Shalakarma yagya (often referred to as the Griha Pravesh गृहप्रवेश ceremony) is part of the Grihastashram or Householder duties of the Sanskaara Vidhi.

This Foundation Laying Ceremony is the first part of the Shalakarma Yagya and is used to commence the foundation of a new home or building. This Yagya is to be done at the commencement of construction of a new home or project, that is, just before the main foundation is cast or constructed.

The host says :

ओमावसोः सदने सीद

The priest replies:

सीदामि।

The host says:

अहमद्ोक्तकर्मकरणा भवन्तं वृणे।

The priest responds:

वृतोऽस्मि।

  2. In the place of कर्म (karma), the Sanskaara can be mentioned. karaṇaaya bhavantam vriṇe.
