I am blessed – Part II

अनुगृहितोऽसि – You are Blessed.
अनुगृहिता अस्म्यहम् – I am Blessed.

This is Part II of “I am blessed” You can listen to this episode by clicking here.

The Upanishads favor us with a powerful concept, तत्त्वमसि (Tat-tvam-asi). In simple terms, this means “That I am.”

This unique and powerful statement, at one level, allows us to reflect on God, contemplate Godly qualities, and inculcate them into our lives and lifestyles.

Let us consider for a moment – each of us has a spark of that supreme consciousness that has given:
– life to this body made of lifeless matter,
– energy to the air that becomes our life breath or prana and
– the power of the human mind that provides us with free will and self-determination, not available to other animals.

Think of this – how lucky are we to be so blessed with that spark of consciousness that is our life itself? How fortunate are we that we can choose to be Godly with our lifestyle and actions?  The choice is ours. Every moment of every day, with every decision we take, we choose to be Godly – or not.

Sometimes, we allow ourselves to become so absorbed in the fears and fantasies of life that we forget that we are granted life by an Awesome God and are meant to have an incredible life. He provides us with all of the essentials of life – even the means of communion with Him.

We must remember that we are never far from Him, and He is never far from us. Think of a drop of water that is taken from an ocean. That drop is only a singular drop when it is separate from the ocean. Once that drop of water realizes that it is the same as the ocean and merges back with the ocean, it is as one and indistinguishable from the ocean.

So we, too – we are a drop of consciousness in that ocean of consciousness, which is God. We are blessed with all of the qualities inherent in that benevolent creator and the sustainer that is God, who guides and blesses us as His children.

Let us continue to strive to be Godly; God is kind – we must be kind; God is just – we must be just; God is forgiving; we must be forgiving. And so on. We are undoubtedly blessed to be here! We will start to appreciate how truly blessed we are when we inculcate these qualities.

Always remember that you are blessed. When problems, disappointment, anger, or negative emotions arise, say to yourself, “I am blessed.” And when you feel that surge of bliss, thank the Almighty, for indeed, you are blessed.

Say it, repeat it, share it, and say it again and again: I am blessed, I am blessed, I am blessed.

Tat tvam asi.

Thank you, and God bless you.
