Jo aayaa hai ek din usko, jaanaa paṛegaa
Roke parivaar chaahe, roke sansaar phir bhee, jaanaa paṛegaa
Dekhe le mout ko na – ààkho mè aasoo bharnaa
Sun le O marne vaale – hàs hàs ke tujhko bharnaa
Nashvar hai deh teree, agni me ik din usko, jaanaa paṛegaa
Nikammaa hai duniyaa mè – jeevan apmaan kaa
Achchha hai thoṛaa jenaa – jeevan ho shaam kaa
Bhav se jo paar honaa – vedaanusaar jeevan, banaanaa paṛegaa
Makree kee bhaaṭee toone – jaal bichaayaa
Viṣhayo vikaaro mè hai – jeevan gavaayaa
Prabhu se kiyaa thaa jo, vaayadaa garbh mè usko, nibhaanaa paṛegaa
Duniyaa hai ajab saraaye, aaye aur koee jaaye
Saathee shamshaan tak hai, apne aur kyaa paraaye
Nandlaal sun le, karmo kaa phal tujhko bhee, paanaa paṛegaa
As we come into this world, one day, we shall have to go. Even if the family or the world/society cries, we cannot be held back; we must go.
Seeing death approaching, the eyes fill with tears. Listen O you who have to go, live in such a way that you shall be ready to depart happily. Realize that you will have to give up this body one day, as the body will be surrendered into flames.
Of what value is a long life without any honor? It may be better to live whatever span of life in a full sense of achievement and doing good. Those whose life may be without any values should change in accordance to the advice of the Vedas.
Like a spider(makri) that spreads its web to trap flies, some people are trapped in the web of life. O Man, before birth, you promised God that you would always do good if you were given a chance to be born in the world. Remember this as you live.
The world is made up of going and coming. The friends we make in this world cannot go with us, they can only accompany us up to the crematorium.. listen, O Friend, live wisely, for you will surely reap the fruits of the seeds you have sown.
