Meraa jeevan koraa kaagaz

Meraa jeevan koraa kaagaz
koraa hee raha gayaa
Jo likhaa thaa àasuò ke
sang baha gayaa

Ek havaa kaa jhòkaa aayaa
ṭooṭaa ḍaalee se phool
Naa pavan kee naa chaman kee
kiskee hai ye bhool
Kho gayee
khushboo havaa mè kuchh ne raha gayaa

Uṛate panchhee kaa ṭhikaanaa
Meraa na koee jahàà
Naa ḍagar hai naa khabar hai
jaanaa hai mujhko kahàà
Ban ke sapanaa
Hamsafar kaa saath raha gayaa

Dukh ke andar sukh kee jyotee
Dukh hee sukh kaa gyaan
Dard sah ke janma leta
har koee insaan
Vo sukhee hai
jo khushee se dard saha gayaa

My life, my destiny, remains a blank (unwritten/unfulfilled) paper; that which is destined for me was wiped away by sadness (tears).

When a gust of air blows away the petals of a flower, neither the wind nor the situation can be blamed. It’s dissipated, gone like a sweet fragrance and nothing remains.

Even the flying birds have a home, but I do not have a place. Neither do I have a path to follow or a place to go to. The dream that was going to be realized from my journey remains just a dream, unfulfilled.

With sorrow, we lose sight of the light of happiness. But it is suffering that makes us appreciate the moments of happiness. We are born into the world while withstanding pain and suffering and if we can withstand the suffering of life with a positive mind, then it all eases away.

Kishore Kumar; Movie: Kora Kagaz (1974)
