Mere samne vaalee khiṛkee mė
Ek chaand ka tukṛaa rehtaa hai
Afsoos yeh hai ke voh humse
Kuch ukhṛaa-ukhṛaa rehtaa hai
Jis roz se dekhaa hai usko
Ham shammaa jalaanaa bhool gaye
Dil thaam ke aise baithe hai
Kaheė aanaa jaanaa bhool gaye
Ab aaṭh pehar in aankhȯ mė
Voh chanchal mukhṛaa rehtaa hai
Mere samne…
Barsaat bhee aakar chalee gayee
Baadal bhee garajkar baras gaye
Par uskee ek jhalak ko ham
Ai husn ke maalik taras gaye
Kab pyaas bujhegee aȧkhȯ kee
Din raat yeh dukhṛaa rehtaa hai
Mere samne …
In a window across from my house, there lives a piece of the lovely moon. The problem is that she is detached from me!
Ever since I saw her splendor and light, I have forgotten to light the lamp. I have been sitting still, clutching my heart with no thought of moving from here. Now that payful face is constantly in my vision.
Even the storms that came have left. The clouds thundered and gave their rains and then they too left. But here I am still, yearning for just one glimpse of her. O God of beauty, when will these eyes’ thirst be quenched? Days and nights go on with this needful thirst.
