Tumheė mere mandir

Koee meree aȧko se

Jidhar dekhtee hoȯ
udhar tum hee tum ho
Na jaane magar

Mujhe dekhkar tum

Nahee to me samjhoongee

Tumhee mere mathe kee
bindiyaa kee jhil mil
Tumhee mere hatho ke

Me hoȯ ek chhotee see

Tumhe dekhkar yah

Kee jaise farishtaa
koee so rahaa hai

You are my temple and you are the very object of my worship, You are my God. If someone looks through my eyes, they will understand what You are to me.

Wherever I look, I find You there. But, still, I do not know (fully) where you really are. Whenever You look at me, do give me Your smile (blessing), otherwise, I will think that you are annoyed with me.

You are the glittering bindu on my forehead (the center of my thoughts). You are the beautiful ornaments of my hand (you are my jewel). I am just a little earthen idol while You are my breath, my very soul.

Time has passed, and I will now allow you to rest (I will not bother you). With the wind blowing (as my music), I will sing you a lullaby (a song of love). Your lovely face shall remain with me all the time, even in the moments of my sleep.

Khandaan (1965); Lata Mangeshkar
