Tumhee mere mandir

Tumhee mere mandir,
tumhee meree poojaa
tumhee devataa ho
Koi meree aakhoo se
dekhe to samjhe
Ki tum mere kyaa ho

Jidhar dekhatee hoo
udhar tum hee tum ho
Na jaane magar kin
khayaalo me gum ho
Mujhe dekhakar tum
zaraa muskuraa do
Nahee to mai samjhoongee,
mujhse khafaa ho

Tumhee mere maathe kee
bindiyaa kee jhil-mil
Tumhee mere haatho ke
gajaro kee manzil
Mai hoo ek chhotee-see
maaṭee kee guṛiyaa
Tumhee praaṇ mere,
tumhee aatmaa ho

Bahut raat beetee
chalo mai sulaa doo
Pavan chheṛe sargam
mai loree sunaa doo
Tumhe dekhkar ye
khayaal aa rahaa hai
Ki jaise farishtaa
koi so rahaa hai

Lata Mangeshkar; Movie: Khandan, 1965; Lyricist: Ravi Shankar

You are my temple and you are the very object of my worship, You are my God. If someone looks with my eyes, they will understand what You are to me.

Wherever I look, I find You there. But, still, I do not know (fully) where you really are. Whenever You look at me, do give me Your smile (blessing), otherwise, I will think that you are annoyed with me.

You are the glittering bindu on my forehead (the center of my thoughts). You are the beautiful ornaments of my hand (you are my jewel). I am just a little earthen idol while You are my breath, my very soul.

Time has passed, and I will now allow you to rest (I will not bother you). With the wind blowing (as my music), I will sing you a lullaby (a song of love). Your lovely face shall
remain with me all the time, even in the moments of my sleep.
