चल उड़ जा रे पंछी कि अब ये देश हुआ बेगाना
तूने तिनका-तिनका चुन कर, नगरी एक बसाई
बारिश में तेरी भीगी काया, धूप में गरमी छाई
ग़म ना कर जो तेरी मेहनत तेरे काम ना आई
अच्छा है कुछ ले जाने से देकर ही कुछ जाना
भूल जा अब वो मस्त हवा वो उड़ना डाली-डाली
जब आँख की काँटा बन गई, चाल तेरी मतवाली
कौन भला उस बाग को पूछे, हो ना जिसका माली
तेरी क़िस्मत में लिखा है जीते जी मर जाना
चल उड़ जा रे पंछी …
रोते हैं वो पँख-पखेरू साथ तेरे जो खेले
जिनके साथ लगाये तूने अरमानों के मेले
भीगी आँखों से ही उनकी, आज दुआयें ले ले
किसको पता अब इस नगरी में कब हो तेरा आना
चल उड़ जा रे पंछी
Fly away, O bird-like soul. This place where you have lived all your life now belongs to someone else.
The time allotted to you to live on one of the limbs of the World Tree has expired. While living on this Tree, you jumped freely from limb to limb. But, this Tree doesn’t belong to you anymore. You were destined to live here only a few days.
Bit by bit, you built a beautiful city-like home for you and your family. It was a difficult struggle to put it all together. Now, you have to leave this beautiful home behind. You may feel that your effort has gone wasted but do not be broken-hearted. Rather than taking this wealth with you, give it to someone to make use of, and you go forward to the Realm allotted to you.
All your bird-like friends are now weeping at your departure. They played and cherished dreams with you. Accept their best wishes, for they express them with tears. Who knows when you will return to this city-like home?
