बन बन में ढूंढा था जिसको वो मन में ही करतार मिला
मैं हार के बाज़ी जीत गया मुझे प्यारे प्रभु का प्यार मिला
हाथ योग में सदया गुज़र गयी पर मन चंचल न साध सका
अज्ञानी बन सोया मैं रहा,ज्ञानी बन कर ना जाग सका
जीवन की नैया पार हुई जब वेदो का आधार मिला
मंदिर गुरुद्वारे में भी गया, भगवे पहने और संत बना
चली चेले अगणित मूँड़ेमत धारी महा महन्त बना
नाटक खेले कई जीवन में न चैन मिला न करार मिला
गंगा जी पर भी स्नान किया,पर मन की मैल न उतर सकी
आशाओ की नगरी उजरी यह देख के काया सिहार उठी
बेचैन भटकती बुल बुल को अब तलक नहीं गुलज़ार मिला
धन धाम ने मेरा वरन किया,पूजा राजे महा राजो ने
भाषण पर जय जय कार हुई,यू स्वागत किया हज़ारो ने
पर मुझको धन सन्तोष बिना,जो कुछ भी मिला बेकार मिला
I spent so much time wandering through the forests of life, looking and searching for the Dear One whom I eventually found in my heart. I lost so much while gambling with life. My loving lord eventually meets me with love.
I spent time practicing discipline and Yoga, but my restless mind could not be managed and so, I remained ignorant and lost to the depth of wisdom. And only when the boat of life moved along, the beautiful wisdom of the Vedas started to come to me.
In my efforts, I practiced sainthood, attended temples, attracted disciples, and was proclaimed a great one. But in all of this, this drama that is called life, I could not find peace or contentment.
Sacred baths and pilgrimages cleaned my body but could not wash the impurities of my mind. My hopes were shattered and my body became frail. Like a bird flying here and there, I became restless, finding no place of peace.
The alluring ties of power and wealth entrapped me as my ego took control in response to the applause and praises of others. Notwithstanding the wealth, fame, and glory, I lacked contentment and thus, lacked true happiness. Whatever I accumulated and enjoyed was useless.
