Karnavedha sanskaara

भद्रं कर्णेभिः शृणुयाम देवा भद्रं पश्येमाक्षभिर्यजत्राः ।
स्थिरैरङ्गैस्तुष्टुवांसस्तनूभिर्व्यशेम देवहितं यदायुः ॥

Bhadram karṇebhih shriṇuyaama devaa
Bhadram pashyema-akshabhir-yajatraah.
Stirair-aṅgais-tuṣhṭu-vaamsas-tanoobhir
Vyashema devahitam yadaayuh.¹

May we hear with our ears that which is blessed, auspicious, and Godly. May we see that which is Godly and discern that which is good. May our organs, our limbs, and our entire body be firm and steady as divinely intended for the duration of my life.

भद्रंम् good, blessed, auspicious कर्णेभिः with ears शृणुयाम may hear, listen देवा bestower of happiness, God, highest order of existence पश्येमाक्षभिर्यजत्राः May we see with our eyes that which is worthy of devotion within everything पश्येम may see अक्षभिः with eyes यजत्राः worthy of worship, worthy of devotion, deserving adoration स्थिरैः strong, firm, steadyअङ्गै with organs, limbs, body तुष्टुवासः praying स्तु to praise, laud तनूभिः with limbs व्यशेम may achieve देवहितं good for the learned, as arranged by Divinity, Divinely made यत् that अयुः age, duration of time/life

वक्ष्यन्तो वेदा गनीगन्ति कर्णं प्रियः सखायं परिषस्वजाना ।
योषेव  शिङ्क्ते वितताधि धन्वञ्ज्या इयः समने पारयन्ती ॥

Vakshyantee vedaa ganeegantee karṇam
priyah sakhaayam pariṣhasvajaanaa.
Yoṣheva shiṇkte vitataadhi
dhanvamjyaa iyah samane paarayantee.²

A weapon impacts the ear, as do the words of a wise person. May you always be surrounded by wise persons who bring to you words of wisdom. May you endure any harmful or negatively influential sounds and words that come your way and overcome any negative impacts. May your success be assured always and perpetually.

वक्ष्यन्तीव being about to be said वेदा wisdom, wise कर्णम् whose, also ear आगनीगन्ति quickly understood or immediately realized प्रियम् dear, loving सखायम् a friend who is present परिषस्वजाना present from all sides, perpetual, also embrace योषेव like, as it were, somehow, just so शिङ्क्ते a humming sound, muttering a word वितता expand, comprehensive, increase अधि on, from, accordingly, above धन्वन् bow, weapon ज्या bowstring, trigger of weapon इयम् this समने battle, conflict, challenge पारयन्ती resist, overcome, endure

हे बालक! तवं जीव शरदः शतं वर्धमाना ॥

He Baalak! Tvam jeeva sharadah shatam vardhamaanaa.

Dear Child, our blessings to you. May you develop, grow, and thrive throughout your life. May you live a long and healthy life.

बालक child, son त्वम् you जीव live शरद: year शतं hundred वर्धमान: grow, thrive
