Kanhaiyaa kisko kahegaa too maiyaa
Jisne tujhko janam diyaa ke
Jisne tujhko paalaa
Maanee maanataaye aur devee
Dev pooje par sahee devakee ne
Doodh me nehlaane kaa
Goad me khilaane kaa
Sukh paayaa yashodaa jee ne
Ek ne tujhko jeevan diyaa re
Ek ne jeevan sambhaalaa
Marne ke ḍar se bhej diya ghar se
Devakee ne re gokul me
Binaa diye janam yashodaa banee maataa
Tujhko chupaayaa aanchal me
Ek ne tan ko roop diyaa re
Ek ne man ko dhaalaa
Janam diyaa ho chaahe palaa ho
Kisee ne bhed ye mamtaa na jaane
Koyee bhee ho jisne diyaa
Ho pyaar maa kaa
Man to maa useeko mane
Ek ne tujhko dee hai re aakhe
Ek ne diyaa ujaalaa
O Kanhaiya, who will you address as Mother? Is it the one who gave birth to you or the one who raised you with love?
Devaki had a firm belief in God and worshipped fervently to give birth to you. YashodaJi nursed you with love and happiness. One gave you birth, the other gave you life.
Devaki had to flee in order to protect you from death. Yashoda became your mother without giving bright to you. One mother gave shape to your body, and the other mother shaped your mind.
Born or brought up, both love is unique and no one can know that love more than the mother who loves. Mother’s mind is unique in her love. One mother gave you your physical eyes, the other mother gave you the light to see.
Singer: Kishore Kumar; Movie – Choti Bahi, 1971
