Meraa jootaa hai japaanee
Ye patloon Englishtaani
Sar pe laal ṭopi roosee
Phir bhi dil hai hindustaanee
Nikal paṛe hȧi khullee saȧak par
Apnaa seenaa taane
Manzil kahaȧ, kahaȧ ruknaa hai
Uparvaalaa jaane, uparvaalaa jaane
Baṛhte jaayė ham sailaanee
Jaise ek dariyaa toofanee
Sar pe laal ṭopi roosee
Phir bhi dil hai hindustaaneei
Mera joota
Oopar-neeche neeche-oopar
Lahar chale jeevan kee
Naadaan hȧi jo baith kinaare
Poochhė raah vatan kee
Chalnaa jeevan kee kahaanee
Ruknaa maut kee nishaanee
Sar pe laal ṭopi roosee
Phir bhi dil hai hindustaaneei
Mera joota
Honge raje raajkuvar ham
Bigṛe dil shehzaade
Ham singhasan par jaa baithe
Jab jab karė iraadė
Soorat hai jaani pahachaanee
Duniyaa vaalȯ ko hairaanee
Sar pe laal ṭopi roosee
Phir bhi dil hai hindustaaneei
Mera joota
My shoes are Japanese, these pants are British made, my red hat is Russian – but still my heart is Indian!
I have started on an open road boldly and confidently. But only God knows what is my destination and where is my stop. I will move ahead relentlessly like a stormy sea raging currents.
Life is always up and down and down and up. Those who sit idly while asking for directions – those who take directions but remain idle are wasting time. Continuous progress is the story of life. Forging ahead is the story of life while stopping is a sign of death and decay.
I could be a prince of some kingdom but I lack pure intentions. Indeed we can sit on a throne whenever we wish to and wherever we are. Even though our faces may be familiar, we can still surprise the world.
