Dukh ho yaa sukh
Jab sadaa sang rahe naa koee
Phir dukh ko apnaayiye
Ke jaaye to dukh naa hoye
Raahee manvaa dukh kee chintaa
kyoȯ sataatee hai
Dukh to apnaa sathee hai
Sukh hai ek chhaȧv ḍhaltee
aatee hai jaatee hai
Dukh to apnaa sathee hai
Rahee manvaa…
Door hai manzil door sahee
Pyaar hamaaraa kyaa kam hai
Pag me kaȧte laakh sahee
Par ye sahaaraa kyaa kam hai
Hamrah tere koee apnaa to hai
Sukh hai ek chhaȧv ḍhaltee
aatee hai jaatee hai
Dukh to apnaa sathee hai
Raahee manvaa…
Dukh ho koee tab jalte hai
Path ke deep nigaahȯ mė
Hamrah tere koee apnaa to hai
Sukh hai ek chhaȧv ḍhaltee
aatee hai jaatee hai
Dukh to apnaa sathee hai
Raahee manvaa…
Pleasure and pain are temporary companions for us. Philosophically one might say it is better to have pain since, if pain leaves you, you will not lament. But, when we hold onto happiness and that leaves us, then we cry bitterly.
O Traveller (rahee), with pain and sorrow in the mind, tension (chinta) seems like reality and unhappiness seems like our close companion. Pleasure seems to be like a chadow, coming and going, while pain seems to be like the underlying permanence in our lives.
When in difficulties, we are grateful for whatever help we receive. So, when journeying along the lonely paths of life in the world, unhappiness can be your constant companion, providing the soul with whatever it needs. In our troubled times, one can have this pessimistic view of life.
