Sansaar hai ik nadiyaa

Sansaar hai ik nadiyaa
Dukh sukh do kinaare hai
Na jaane kahaȧ jaaye
Ham bahte dhaare hai

Chalte huve jeevan kee
Raftaar mė ik laya hai
Ik raag mė ik sur mė
Sansaar kee har shaya hai
Ik taar pe gardish mė
Ye chaand sitaare hai

Dhartee pe ambar kee
Aȧkho se barastee hai
Ik roz yahee boonde
Phir baadal bantee hai
Is banane bigaṛne ke
Dastoor mė saare hai

Koee bhee kisee ke liye
Apnaa na paraayaa hai
Rishte ke ujaale mė
Har aadmee saayaa hai
Kudarataa ke bhee dekho to
Ye khel puraane hai

Hai kaun vo duniya mė
Na paap kiyaa jisne
Bin uljhe kaȧto se
Hai phul chune kisne
Be daag nahee koee
Yahaȧ paapee saare hai

This world (sansaar) is like a river (nadiya). Happiness (sukh) and sadness (dukh) are like their two banks. Naa jaane, not knowing, kahaa jaaye, where you are going, ham behte dhaare hai, we keep running in midstream.

With speed, this life rushes by with its own unique style and rhythm. The makeup of the universe is like the scales of harmonious music – and when the time of dissolution comes, all collapses, including the stars and moon.

We see the rain from the clouds fall onto the earth, then evaporate and go back to the clouds. This is the story of human life and of creation itself. Everything is created and is dissolved, this is the law of the world. We come and we go.

No person is his own master – nor does anyone else own you. Everyone, and all attachments – none is real, they are only for the here and now (momentous). This is God’s law.

Who is that person who has never sinned? Who can pick a rose without being pricked by its thorns? Yes, this is a sinful world. No one is without stain. But, be not attached to anything and you will cross the river of life.

Raftaar (1975); Asha Bhosle, Mukesh Chand Mathur (Mukesh)
