Tum ho prabhu chaand

Tum ho prabhu chaand mai hoo chakoraa.
Tum ho kamal phool mai ras kaa bhouraa

Jyoti tumhaaree kaa mai hoo patangaa
Aanand ghan tum ho, mai ban ka mouraa

Jaise hai chumbak kee lohe se preeti
Aakarṣhaṇ kare mohe lagaataar toraa

Paanee binaa jaise ho meen vyaakul
Aise hee taṛpaaye tumhaaraa bichhouṛaa

Ek boond jal kaa mai pyaasaa hoo chaatak
Amrit kee karo varṣhaa haro taap moraa

You are like the moon, and in comparison, I am like the chakora bird, in love with the moon and gazing at it constantly.

You are like the lotus flower, I am like the bee that buzzes around incessantly, seeking honey from the flower.

You are the light which I, like the moth fly, am attracted to merge with. You are like a cloud showering inspiration, while I am like the peacock, thirsty for the showers.

Like the magnet which pulls the iron to it, may I be pulled to your self O Lord. Just like a fish that is helpless without water, so I am helpless and agitated without you.

I am like the chaatak bird that is thirsty for water, You are the giver of the Divine Water, spiritual blessings, O Lord. Let your blessings flow like nectar so that the inner thirst be quenched, and the inner fires be contented.

Krishna Sudama, 1947; Lyricist: Kamalnayan
