Uṭho behnȯ paṛhȯ vidyaa
Yahee shikshaa hamaaree hai
Bina vidyaa ke paṛhne se
Buree haalat tumhaaree hai
Tumhaaraa naam sudro mė
Huvaa shaamil hai ai behnȯ
Bahee hai pairkee kee jootee
Yahee dukh hamko bhaaree hai
Tumhaaraa maan aur izzat
Naheė ab kuchh rahaa baakee
Shabaab iskaa yahee airee
Avidyaa tumko pyaaree hai
Tumhee ko kehte the lakshmee
Tumhaaraa naam thaa devee
Tumhaaree murkh hone se
Huaa bhaarat dukhaaree hai
Yahee ‘vaasudev” kee vintee
Naa jab tak tum paṛho vidyaa
Tabhee tak ye buree haalat
Hamaaree aur tumhaaree hai
Arise O Sisters! Embrace wisdom and higher knowledge. Educate yourself; empower yourself with the right knowledge to avoid difficulties and problems.
For so long women have been treated as the weaker gender, and are treated as if an outcaste in some cultures. This is sorrowful for those of us who believe in equality for all.
Honor and respect is scarce and ignorance reigns supreme as to your value Sisters. People look to your beauty as the only value and this causes your own carelessness and complacency.
In Hinduism, you are called Lakshmi and Devi, a goddess. However, countries, cultures, and societies generally suffer because of the lack of education of women and the unequal treatment of women.
This singer/writer calls on you to rise up and be educated. Your education will empower you to rise above and to be treated like equals in the world.
