Giving respect to the Acharya
The initiate sitting, facing east says to the Acharya
अमुकगोत्रोत्पन्नोऽहं भो भवन्तमभिवादये ॥ नमस्ते ॥
Amuk-gotrotpanno-aham bho bhavantam-abhi-vaadaye1
Namaste
I am of the lineage of (state lineage) and I pay my respects to you. Namaste.
अमुक an unnamed person गोत्रम् lineage पन्न of the past अहम् I am भो oh, yes भवन्तम् you अभि salute, respect वादये cause to speak, cause to be
Acharya says:
आयुष्मान् विद्यावान् भव सौम्य ॥
Aayuṣhmaan vidyaavaan bhava saumya.
May long life and superior education be yours, O devoted and auspicious initiate.
आयुष्मान् life, long life विद्यावान् well-learned, educated भव you सौम्य worshipper, auspicious, likeable, brahman
Blessing for the Brahmachari
हे बालक! त्वमीश्वरकृपया विद्वान् शरीरात्मबलयुक्तः कुशली
वीर्यवानरोगः सर्वा विद्या अधीत्याऽस्मान् दिदृक्षः सन्नागम्याः ॥
He baalak, Tvam-eeshvara-kripayaa vidvaan
shareer-aatma-bala-yuktah
kushaalee veeryavaana-rogah sarvaa vidyaa
adheetyaa’smaan didrikshah sannaa-gamyaah.
Oh Child, May the Supreme Lord always grace you with wisdom and strength so that you can become wise and avoid or overcome any ill health. May you, after completion of your studies, return to us to impart your knowledge.
हे oh बालक child त्वम् you ईश्वर supreme soul कृपया please, have mercy, by grace विद्वान् learned person शारीर body आत्मा sould, self बल strength युक्तः endowed with, possessed of कुशली happy वीर्यवानरोगः overcome illness or afflictions सर्वा all विद्या wisdom अधीत्य having studied अस्मान् us दिदृक्षः having desired to meet/see सन्न preparation अगम्य having arrived
