May our promises and vows be maintained as we undertake them intentionally, from the heart. May our emotions, thoughts, and words synchronize as we enter this honorable stage of life with the grace and blessings of the Almighty.

Sindoor has been applied traditionally, and wearing sindoor has become a mark of a married woman. In this verse, the groom places his hand on the Bride’s forehead as a declaration to the world. See Note 13

The groom places his right hand at the forehead of bride and says:

मङ्गलीरियं वधूरिमां समेत पश्यत
ौभाग्यमस्ै दत्त्वााथास्तं विपरेतन ॥

This bride will bring auspiciousness to our home. May all relatives and well-wishers bless this beautiful bride. O Bride, be blessed with good fortune and prosperity, and may everyone always treat you with kindness, respect, and affection.

मङ्गलीः very auspicious इयम् this वधूः wife, lady इमाम् this, she सम्एत meet, approach पश्यत see ौभाग्यम् good fortune अस्यै this, she दत्त्वा give, add अथ now अस्तम् set विपरा go away, apart

Everyone looks toward the couple and says

ओं ौभाग्यमस्तु
ओं शुभं भवतु

Our blessing unto you. May great fortune be yours; may everything be auspicious.

ौभाग्यम् welfare, success, prosperity अस्तु be it so शुभम् welfare भवतु be it so

All rise to allow the couple to depart from the Vedi.
