ENTRANCE INTO NEW HOME
This section of the Yagya is the symbolic entrance into the new home. Before entering the house, water is sprinkled in different directions, symbolizing peace, calmness, and bliss from all sides. If there is adequate access to the four sides of the house, then this is to be done on the four sides, going east, south, west, and north. If there is no access to the four sides, this should be done at the front of the home while facing the directions indicated.
Sprinkling water in the four directions
With the following mantras, water can be sprinkled at the four directional doors.
Note: If access is impossible to each direction, the verses can be chanted at the front door and water sprinkled at the front of the home while facing each direction.
East (front/main) Door:
इमामुच्छ्रयामि भुवनस्य नाभिं वसोर्धारां प्रतरणीं वसूनाम् ।
इहैव ध्रुवां निमिनोमि शालां क्षेमे तिष्ठतु घृतमुक्षमाणा ॥
Imaamuch-chhrayaami bhuvanasya naabhih
vasordhaaraan prataraṇee vasoonaam.
Ihaiva dhruvaam niminomi shaalaam
ksheme tiṣhṭhatu ghritamukshamaaṇaa.1
May there always be joy and delight for the homeowners in passing through this doorway and entering into the center of this home. May this entrance be secure and safe. May those who enter this doorway be blessed and bring bliss to this home with positive energies. We hereby consecrate this, the main entrance of this home.
इमाम् this उच्यते delight in, take pleasure in भुवनस्य situated here नाभिं center वस live आधार respect, foundation, support प्रतरणीम् lead or guide the entrance or passing over वसूनाम् property, wealth इहैव repeatedly ध्रुवां stable, fixed, निमिनोमि perceive, understand, to fix शालाम् home क्षेमे secure, safe तिष्ठतु wait, pause घृतम् ghee, butter, energy-giving elements उक्षमाणा sprinkle, consecrate
South (or south doorway)
अश्वावती गोमती सूनृतावत्युच्छ्रयस्व महते सौभगाय ।
आत्वा शिशुराक्रन्दत्वा गावो धेनवो वाश्यमानाः ॥
Ashvaavatee gomatee soonritaavaty-
uchchhra-yasya mahate saubagaaya.
Aatvaa shishuraa-krandatvaa
gaavo dhenavo vaashyamaanaah.2
May we be blessed with your Protection, O Lord. May our possessions and property be safeguarded. May we never have cause to lament any losses or threats from the Southern direction. May we be blessed with happiness, wealth, transportation, possessions, and good health. May we live peacefully in our home, and may our children be blessed. May the plants and animals around our home also live in harmony with us.
अश्वावती having power, having means of transportation गोमती having wealth, having possessions सूनृतावत् joyous, glad उच्छ्रय growth, elevation, rising heights स्व health महत great, mighty सौभगाय prosperity, welfare, happiness आत्वा placid, without haste, cautiously शिशु young, baby, child आक्रन्दते lamentations शिशु अराक्रन्दत्वा गावो cows धेनवो milk-giving वाश्य settle down, adhoc sounds मानाः mental state
West (or western doorway)
आत्वा कुमारस्तरुण आवत्सो जगदैः सह ।
आत्वा परिस्रुतः कुम्भ आदध्नः कलशैरुप ।
क्षेमस्य पत्नी बृहती सुवासा रयिं नो धेहि सुभगे सुवीर्यम् ॥
Aatvaa kumaarastaruṇa aavatso jagadaih saha.
Aatvaa parisrutah kumbha aadadhnah kalashairupa.
Kshemasya patnee brihatee suvaasaa
rayim no dhehi subhage suveeryam.3
May the occupants of this home be happy and at peace. May this home be secure and protective of those who reside within. May there always be happiness, wealth, good food, healthy drinks, and energy for all in this home. May the residents of this home always be well-dressed, brave, and successful. May this home be known for its happiness and peacefulness.
आत्वा placid, without haste, cautiously कुमारस्तरुण wife and children आवत् proximity जगदैः the world सह along with परिस्रुतः known as, famous कुम्भ grains आदध्नः be seen कलशैरुप buttermilk, healthy food क्षेम residing अस्य of this पत्नी wife बृहती speech सुवासा well dressed रयिं wealth नो for us धेहि give, bestow सुभगे prosperity सुवीर्यम् abundance of heroes
North (or Northern doorway)
अश्वावद्गोमदूर्जस्वत् पर्णं वनस्पतेरिव ।
अभिनः पूर्यतां रयिरिदमनुश्रेयो वसान ॥
Ashvaavad-gomadoor-jasvat parṇam vanaspateriva.
Abhinah pooryataam rayi-ridam-anushreyo vasaana.4
O Lord, please bless our home so that it is sturdy and secure and brings us peace and contentment. Please bless us with the accompanying health, prosperity, and contentment. Please bless all around us so that the plants and animals near us will always be at peace. May every leaf and particle of item around our home be at peace.
अश्वावत् means of transportation गोमत् many possessions ऊर्जस्वत् long-lasting, sturdy पर्णं leaves वनस्पतेरिव plants and trees अभिनः modern, new, inclined पूर्यतां satisfactory, sated, become full रयि wealth, prosperity इदम् this अनुश्रेयो vedic tradition वसान desiring, trust
Entrance into home
The homeowners now approach the front door and say to the priest:
हे ब्रह्मण! प्रविशामीति॥
He Brahmaṇ, pravishaam-iti.5
O Priest, may we be blessed to enter our home and commence our life here.
प्रविश enter, step into, begin, commence म me, I इति so, why, can
वरं भवान् प्रविशतु ॥
Varam bhavaan pravishatu
May you be blessed as you step into your new home.
वरम् boon, blessing, best भवान् building प्रविश enter, step into, begin, commence तु you
As the owner(s) enter, they recite:
ओम ऋचं प्रपद्ये शिवं प्रपद्ये ॥
Om richam prapadye shivam prapadye.6
May truth, logic, auspiciousness and godliness enter this home with us.
