Pradhaan Homa: Morning oblations with Ghee and Samagri1
ओं सूर्यो ज्योतिर्ज्योतिः सूर्यः स्वाहा।
Om sooryo jyotir-jyotih sooryah svaahaa.2
Homage to the Soorya the Prime Cause of the universe; the jyotih source of light as well as the jyotih light itself as in the sooryah sun
सूर्यः Prime Cause ज्योतिर source of light – cause of light र्ज्योतिः light (the light itself) सूर्यः sun स्वाहा with appreciation
ओं सूर्यो वर्चो ज्योतिर्वर्चः स्वाहा।
Om sooryo varcho jyotir-varchah svaahaa.3
Homage to the soorya Creator whose varchah brilliance is the jyotih source of light and illumination by which the world is varchah lustrous.
सूर्यः Prime Cause वर्चाः splendour/brilliance the glory and power of light ज्योतिः light वर्चः glory, power, qualities स्वाहा with appreciation
ओं ज्योतिः सूर्यः सूर्यो ज्योतिः स्वाहा।
Om jyotih sooryah sooryo jyotih svaahaa.4
Homage to the sooryah Provider of Light as well as to jyotih the light of the world; homage to the Cause of Light, Gravity (all effects of the sun) and the effect of light and gravity etc.
ज्योतिः Light; a perceptive force of illuminative bliss, a state of blissful awareness, also, as a force that dispels darkness; as a force that also illumines. सूर्यः sun सूर्यः सूर्योज्योतिः Prime Cause of that light स्वाहा appreciation, adoration
ओं सजूर्देवेन सवित्रा सजूरुषसेन्द्रवत्या। जुषाणः सूर्यो वेतू स्वाहा।
Om sajoor-devena savitraa sajoor-uṣha-sendra-vatyaa.
Juṣhaanah sooryo vetu svaahaa.5
Homage to sajoohdevena wholesome dispeller of darkness, the savitraa life-force that, together with sajooh wisdom is vatyaa spread all over like the ushasendra glorious dawn that heralds soorya the sunlight
सजू with, also complete, wholesome देवेन effulgent, bright सवित्रा Creator, life-force सजू with उषसा the dawn, the beginning of day इन्द्रवत्या resplendent, glorious जुषाणः union with, in unison सूर्यो sun वेतू acquire and spread स्वाहा adore, appreciate (homage to)
- If Havan is done both morning and afternoon, then these Pradhaan Homa mantras are chanted only in Morning (and not in the afternoon). If havan is done once per day or less frequently, then these mantras are chanted along with the Ahitaagni mantras (below) – that is, whether havan is done in the morning or afternoon, if it is once a day or once a week, then both sets of mantras are chanted.
