Jaatkarma Sanskaara

मा नो हासिषुर्ऋषयो दैव्या ये तनुपा ये नस्तन्वस्तनूजाः ।
अमर्त्या मर्त्यां अभि नः सचध्वमायुर्धत्त प्रतरं जीवसे नः ॥

Maa no haasi-ṣhurishayo daivyaa
ye tanoopaa ye nastanvastanoojaah.
Amartyaa martyaam abhi nah sachadhvam-aayurdhatta
prataram jeevase nah. Atharva Veda 6.44.1

May we always be in the company of wise persons. May our children, born from our own bodies, be strong and successful. May we, now and always, continue our close relationship with our children, and may they never leave us. May we be blessed with the gift of a long life. May our mortal existence always be connected with the immortal and imperishable Divine One.

नः our, to us मा हासिषुः not leave, not end ऋषयः sages दैव्या learned, divine ये those तनुपा protect the person ये those नः our तन्वः one’s own son, own child तनुजाः from our own body अमर्त्याः immortal, imperishable मर्त्यान् mortal, mankind अभि at present time नः to us सचध्वम् close/actual relations आयुः age, life धत्त gift, granted, given प्रतरं prolong, extend, increase जीवसे for life

इमं जीवेभ्यः परिधं दधामि मैषा नु गादपरो अथमेतम् ।
शतं जीवन्तः शरवः पुरूचीस्तिरो मृत्युं दधतां पर्वतेन ॥

Imam jeevebhyah paridhim dadhaami
mai-ṣhaam nu gaadaparo arthametam.
Shatam jeevantah sharadah puroocheestiro
mrityum dadhataam parvatena. Atharva Veda 12.2.23

Humans have a lifetime of a hundred years and beyond. We arrive into this world with that lifetime—unbounded and unrestricted like a mountain during life. With discipline and purpose, we can live that full life. May we be blessed to live free of fear or illness for our full lifetime.

विवस्वान्नो अभयं कृणोतु यः सुत्रामा जीरदानुः सुदानुः ।
इहेमे वीरा बहवो भवन्तु गोमदश्वन्मय्यस्तु पुष्टम् ॥

Vivasvaanno abhayam kriṇotu yah
sutraamaa jeeradaanuh sudaanuh.
Eheme veeraa bahavo bhavantu
gomadashvan-myyastu puṣhṭam

O Almighty Lord, our Protector, please surround us with wisdom, health, prosperity, bravery, and good company. May we be fearless in our ability to overcome any challenge in life.

विवस्वान् brilliant, shining, glowing नः to us, for us अभयं fearless कृणोतु (कृत्) surround, encompass यः that सुत्रामा protector, savior जीरदानुः sprinkling abundantly सुदानुः bounteous इह here, now मे in me वीराः brave, heroic बहवः numerous, many भवन्तु may be गोतम् अश्वमत् represents property and wealth (cows, horses) अस्तु may have मयि in me पुष्टम् capability
