Vivaah Sanskaar (Short)

Introduction

This compilation of the Vivaaha Sanskaara is based on Maharishi Swami Dayanand Saraswati’s Sanskaara Vidhi and numerous commentaries and publications on it.

The entire wedding ceremony (if followed in its literal sense) is very long. However, it is complete in all aspects, including the mutual agreement to be married and the final entry of the married couple into their new home.

While the entire ceremony is a great model to adopt and follow, our modern self-made constraints of time and effort make us search for the more salient parts that can achieve both a spiritual and physical purpose of marriage.

This compilation, therefore, follows the main parts of the ritual and has, in many places, offered a modernistic view of the ancient practices. The meanings and explanations have been derived from the offerings of the noble souls who have done great research.

This compilation also offers research into the logic of the ritual. It also adds some of the sentiments of the wedding to the procedure, like the singing of appropriate songs, the exchange of rings, and the exchange of gifts, among other things.

May this compilation bring the spiritual force behind marriages to the fore.
