Our serene lord
From the Dhyana Sloka of the Vishnu Sahasranama:
शान्ताकारं भुजगशयनं पद्मनाभं सुरेशं
विश्वाधारं गगनसदृशं मेघवर्ण शुभाङ्गम्।
लक्ष्मीकान्तं कमलनयनं योगिभिर्ध्यानगम्यम्
वन्दे विष्णुं भवभयहरं सर्वलोकैकनाथम्॥
Shaantaakaaram bhujaga-shayanam
padma-naabham suresham
Vishva-dhaaram gagana-sadrisham
megha-varṅa shubhaaǹgam.
Lakshmi-kaantam kamal-nayanam
yogibhir-dhyaana-gamyam
Vande viṡhṅum bhava-bhaya-haram
sarva-loka-eka-naatham.
Salutations to the serene One whose resting place is the kundalini shakti and who show us that the navel centre is lotus-like purity. Salutations to the God of Gods who sustains the Universe and is boundless and infinite. Salutations to that Lord whose personality is vapour-like purity and who represents beauty and auspiciousness.
Salutations to the Lord whose all-seeing eyes are loving like lotus, whose love comes with wealth and happiness as Lakshmi. Salutations to our Lord who is accessible and attainable by meditation, who even the Yogis and rishis meditate on, who removes all fear from our worldly existence and who is the Lord of all the worlds.
शान्ताकारं who has a serene appearance; with a peaceful and serene outlook शांत tranquil, serene, calm आकार principal form, shape भुजगशयनं who rests on a serpent भुजग snake serpent शयन lying, resting, sleeping पद्मनाभं who has a lotus on navel पद्म lotus नाभ navel सुरेशं lord of Lords विश्वाधारं Sustainer of the Universe विश्व world आधार supporter, sustainer गगनसदृशं Boundless and Infinite (like sky, space) गगन Sky, infinite openness, infinite space सदृश similar to, resembling मेघवर्ण color like the clouds मेघ cloud, vaporish, (exist but not exist), वर्ण outward appearance, color शुभाङ्गम् beautiful and auspicious body शुभ splendid, beautiful, auspicious, pure अङ्ग body, limb
लक्ष्मीकान्तं the partner to Lakshmi लक्ष्मी Mother Lakshmi कान्त Partner, husband, spouse कमलनयनं lotus-like eyes कमल lotus नयन eyes योगिभिर्ध्यानगम्यम् Attainable by the Yogis and Sages through meditation योगी sages, saints, rishis ध्यान meditation गम्यम accessible, attainable, approachable. वन्दे I praise (I bow upon/I salute) विष्णुं Vishnu, God the Preserver भवभयहरं remover of fear of worldly existence भव worldly existence भय fear हर removing, destroying सर्वलोकैकनाथम्the Master of the whole world सर्व all लोक worlds एक one नाथ Lord
