Moola mantra

Known as a moola mantra this verse of obscure origins addresses the core of worship.

सच्चिदानंद परब्रह्म
पुरुषोत्तम परमात्मा
श्री भगवती समेत
श्री भगवते नमः
हरी ओम् तत् सत्॥

Om sachchidaananda parabrahma
purushottama paramaatmaa.
Shree bhagavatee sameta
shree bhagavate namah.

Namah I bow to Om the cosmic force, the sat-chit-aananda the all-existent, all-intelligent, all-blissful force of the cosmos. Salutations to our Lord, the Parabrahma creator of all and creator of all processes of creation.  He is our purushottama the supreme energy that exists in everything as well as the paramaatamaa the soul of all souls, the inner sublime energy of life of all. Homage to our God who is shri bhagavatee the motherly shakti that creates and nurtures all sameta as well as our shri bhagavate the steady and fatherly protection that is there for all. Hari om tatsat He is that, the remover of all misery.

 Om – the ever present energy, the cosmic vibration
सत् sat – The truth, i.e., the penetrating existence that is formless, shapeless, omniscient, omnipresent etc. The “is” of everything.
चित्त् chitt – consciousness that causes realisation of sat. The consciousness of being, of motion, gravity, magnetism, attraction/repulsion, action.
आनन्द aanand – Bliss; love; positive emotion that arises with chit. The feeling when realising the chit of sat.
परब्रह्म parabrahmathe Absolute aspect of God. That aspect that is beyond time, space. The essence of the form and formless.
पुरुषोत्तम Purusha mean soul; uthama means supreme. It is the supreme energy, the most distilled form of supreme energy that is the primary cause. Purusha also means man/human and purushottam also refers to the Supreme energy that is manifest in everyone.
परमात्मा paramaatmaa The supreme inner energy immanent in every creature and everything animate and/or inanimate. The indweller, the inner formless power that is the guiding force.
श्री भगवती shree bhagavateeThe feminine aspect of supreme intelligence, the shakti or power that creates/produces. Like the Mother Earth that gives birth to every creature as well as giving birth to their sustenance.
समेत sametatogether, in communion with
श्री भगवते shree bhagavate – The masculine aspect of Creation, the unchangeable and permanent force that is steadily there through creation/dissolution.
नमः namah – salutations to; I bow to
हरी ओम् तत् सत् Haree om tat sat – Hari – the definitive principal remover of misery; Om (see above) is truth/reality, the only (singular) absolute. om tat sat – The reality that always has been, always is and always will be.
